Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know about Next Game Finder.
What is Next Game Finder?
Next Game Finder is a game recommendation tool for PC and Mac gamers looking for their next obsession. Steam holds tens of thousands of titles, and most of its discovery features push popular or recent releases, which makes it hard to find games actually worth your time. Next Game Finder ranks games on quality and brings you lesser-known and indie titles while filtering out low-rated, mass-market filler. It works in two ways: a quick mode that needs no account, and a Steam-connected mode that personalizes picks to your library. It runs on both desktop and mobile.
How does Next Game Finder work?
At its core is a proprietary algorithm built to surface great games before everyone else catches on. It reads the signals that actually separate a hidden gem from forgettable filler, weighs them in ways a simple rating sort never could, and only serves up titles that clear its bar. The result is a pick you can trust every time.
Do I have to connect Steam, or can I try it first?
No. Quick Search works with no account and no login. It pulls from a dynamic library of thousands of vetted titles and returns picks instantly, so you can see how the tool works before deciding whether to connect anything. Connecting Steam is optional. It adds personalization by reading your public library and play history, which lets the tool match recommendations to what you already play and skip games you already own.
Is it safe to connect my Steam account?
Yes. The sign-in happens on Steam's own page at steamcommunity.com, not on Next Game Finder, so the site never sees or stores your password. What it receives is your public Steam ID, the number that identifies your account, and from that it reads only the public parts of your profile, such as the games you own and your playtime, through the official Steam Web API. It cannot read private information, and it cannot post, buy, trade, or change anything on your account. The access is read-only and is used only to generate your recommendations.
Why didn't it find my games?
Next Game Finder has limited success if your Steam profile is set to private. Next Game Finder can only read library data that you have made public, so a private profile won't get fully personalized picks. To fix this, open Steam, go to your profile, select Edit Profile, then Privacy Settings, and set Game Details to Public. You can switch it back to private afterward if you prefer. Once Game Details is public, return to Next Game Finder and run your picks again.
Why am I getting indie hits in my recommendations?
Because quality is the only thing the algorithm cares about, and sometimes the best game for you is a breakout hit, not an obscure one. It isn't built to bury anything popular, it's built to ignore the AAA marketing machine. So you'll get the massive indie successes alongside the under-the-radar finds, because both earned their spot the same way: on merit, not budget. What you won't get is broken $70 AAA.
Is Next Game Finder free?
Yes. Both Quick Search and Steam-connected mode are free, with no account required for Quick Search and no payment at any stage. There is no paid tier and no subscription. The site is supported by affiliate links rather than user fees.
How does NGF decide what's worth playing?
It scores games on rating and review quality, then removes low-scoring and generic titles, the filler the site calls slop. The dynamic library is always live and is built from titles that have majority positive reviews. When you connect Steam, Next Game Finder's personalization layer compares those vetted titles against your library and play history, so the picks reflect the kinds of games you already play and leave out ones you own.
How is this different from Steam's own recommendations?
Steam's store recommendations are weighted toward popular and recently released titles, and its Play Next feature only reshuffles games already in your library. Both tend to keep you within titles that are already selling or already owned. Next Game Finder ranks titles by quality rather than popularity or sales, which brings lesser-known and indie games to the surface. It also recommends games you do not own, so the aim is to point you toward something new and worth playing rather than familiar titles.
What's an S-tier pick?
S-tier is the top rating tier in Next Game Finder. It is reserved for the highest-rated titles in the dynamic library, the games that score best on review quality, and they are marked with an S-tier badge in your results. S-tier picks only appear in Steam-connected mode, where they are matched to your preferences. The tiers below it, A, B, and C, still meet a high quality bar and generally average 85% positive or higher, but S-tier represents the strongest titles.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The site runs in any modern mobile browser and is built to be used on a phone, including the picks screen and the option to reroll for a new set. No app or download is required. The same features are available on mobile and desktop.
How does Next Game Finder make money?
Next Game Finder is free to use and is supported by affiliate links. When you buy a game through a link on the site, it can earn a small commission, at no additional cost to you. These affiliate relationships do not influence which games are recommended.
